The Devin Spears Talent Showcase -- February 11, 2012
The Endicott Performing Arts Center Theater, located at 102 Washington Avenue in Endicott, will present a fundraising showcase at 8:00pm at the Robert Eckert Theater. All proceeds from the showcase will benefit the "Devin Spears Memorial Scholarship Fund" which awards scholarships to local graduating high school seniors pursuing higher education in the arts.
Since its inception, EPAC has awarded over $20,000 in scholarships to area students in memory of Devin Spears.
The Devin Spears Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded in memory of Devin Spears who was a member of the EPAC Kids' Theater Workshop and starred as "Dorothy" in the workshop's 2001 production of "The Wiz". Devin and her mother Valerie were tragically murdered in 2002. "Devin was a young lady who believed in living life to the fullest and following her dreams," says EPAC Executive Director Lou Ligouri. "We think that it's very fitting that the scholarship in her name will assist aspiring young artists in pursuing their dreams."
The showcase will feature song, dance, and instrumental performances by many of the area's most talented performers as well as special appearances by Broadway performers from the shows "The Scottsboro Boys", "The Wiz", "Jersey Boys", "Hairspray", "Altar Boys" and more!! This year’s show will be hosted by Stephen Michael Kane who is currently starring in the hit Broadway national tour “Rock of Ages”. The show will feature music ranging from Broadway standards to contemporary pop and rock. There will also be a basket raffle during the show with many theme gift baskets to benefit the scholarship fund.
Tickets to the showcase are $15, Reserved Seating, $10 for seniors and students. There will be a fundraising reception following the show in the EPAC Café to meet members of the cast. Tickets for the reception are $10 and limited to 60. Light refreshments will be served. Tickets are available by calling the EPAC Box Office at785-8903 or on line by clicking on the TICKETS button at the right.
Those unable to attend the show but wanting to contribute to the Devin Spears scholarship Fund can send their donations payable to EPAC Devin Spears Scholarship Fund to EPAC at 102 Washington Ave, Endicott, NY.
Graduating high school seniors pursuing a career in the arts should contact their high school guidance counselor or EPAC for scholarship application forms for 2012. Call 785-8903 for more information or email epac_endicottarts.com.
